USB drive detection took some work (looking in the BIOS, disabling secure boot). Installation was not successful on the first try. In order to boot I enabled secureboot, cleared trusted bootloaders at secureboot settings, saved, rebooted, entered BIOS, added GRUB as trusted UEFI file, saved, rebooted, entered BIOS, disabled secureboot. Grub will appear in the boot order list even if secureboot is disabled. Must be done at each firmware update.

Realtek ALC255 Realtek RTL8168 Qualcomm Atheros NFA435 QCA9377 Qualcomm Atheros NFA435 QCA9377 SuspendToRam & SuspendToDisk issues when R5 GPU gets used in any way (stuck driver) Touchpad does not work with "Advanced Features" enabled in bios, on disable the touchpad is capable to do even more things on linux than with the option enabled on windows; scrolling and gestures on MSWindows gets disabled without "Advanced Features".

All keys get recognized out-of-box.

You would want to tweak or disable the power button action. Using the Radeon driver instead of AMDGPU creates 2 Dummy Backlight devices on early-boot that get deleted on user-space and shows some warnings about the system not being able to restore settings; this can be ignored or fixed either by forcing usage of AMDGPU or editing the backlight restore udev rule to skip them

Aspire 3 A315-41-R09T 2019.03.01 Vega 8: Works out-of-the-box with open source drivers. Intel HDA; OK. Works OK with r8168 module installed. QCA9377, OK. Yes Suspend to RAM: OK

Everything works fine, but you have to stick to a modern kernel. Also, it is important to add ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2 as a kernel parameter on grub (or whatever boot loader of your choice), because it otherwise works erratically and gets stuck either on boot or at shutdown. To properly install Arch Linux, it is a good idea to use noapic as boot parameter, it will run smoothly. Do not use it later, though, as it will disable the I2C touchpad and some other relevant stuff.

Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS.

Enable Advanced Touchpad Gestures in the BIOS.

After powering on or restarting, bootable USB detection by the BIOS can be slow at times, need to restart the laptop again.

Install TLP & edit /etc/tlp.conf for nvidia, host, ahci power management to get extra battery life.

Add pci=noaer as boot flags to disable error messages for Wi-Fi during boot, resume and shutdown.

If the Wi-Fi speeds get throttled while on battery power, disable Wi-Fi power management.
